The government’s open data initiative is continuing to gather traction. Last month, a new report by Stephan Shakespeare – chief executive of YouGov and chair of the Open Data Strategy Board – suggested open data could be worth up to £7bn per year to the UK economy.

Latest research by the analyst firm has predicted that big data implementation will dramatically increase over the coming year.

New research by analyst company Gartner has revealed that 42 per cent of firms have already invested in big data or will do so over the rest of the year.


The latest study, part of Gartner’s ‘Big Data, Bigger Opportunities: Investing in Information and Analytics’ report, had led to the claim that 2013 will be ‘big data’s year’.
